74HC595 is a Serial In Parallel Out (SIPO) shift register integrated circuit. SN74HC595N has a total of 16 legs and 8 of these legs are for outputs. The 74HC595N, which has a wide range of usage, is produced in TTL structure and operates with 5V.
HOW IT WORKS?
- SRCLK – Shift
- RCLK – Store
- SER – Data
- SRCLR – MR – Master Reset
- OE – Output Enable
Serial Data is shifted by the number of pulses applied from the SRCLK. If a pulse is applied from the RCLK pin, the data is transferred to the 8 bit output port (QA-QH). While the SRCLR pin is used to clean the registers (of course data), the OE pin makes the output port active or passive.
Another important feature is that you can increase the number of outputs by connecting 2 or more SN74HC595N. To do this, simply connect the QH’ output to the SER pin of the other integrated circuit.
- We connected the SRCLK (SH_CP) and RCLK (ST_CP) pins as seen in the circuit diagram. We apply clock pulses to these pins. In this way, by making shift and store operations at the same time, we immediately transferred the data on the SER (DS) pin to the output port.
